Since 2018, the Mathews Women's Giving Circle has awarded more than $230,000 to local nonprofits and organizations serving women and families of Mathews County, Virginia.

  • Yes. If your organization serves multiple counties, we recommend you submit an application specifically outlining how the grant will impact women and families in Mathews County, Virginia. The MWGC is more likely to fund your proposal if you include specifics about how your organization will ensure funds will be used in the local area.

Application for Grant

Grant Guidelines:

  • The Mathews Women’s Giving Circle (MWGC) grant program assists a wide range of nonprofit organizations’ projects and/or programs directly benefitting women, children, and/or families in Mathews County.

    The purpose of the program is to provide a one-year grant to nonprofit organizations to complete a specific program/project/activity that serves Mathews County Virginia. Grant funds may be used for direct costs related to a specific program/project/activity, such as but not limited to, personnel responsible for implementing an event, presentation, or project, equipment, materials, and/or supplies, that are necessary for the program/project/activity and administration of the specific program/project/activity. Grant funds may not be used to add to general operating costs that support the organization as a whole.

  • MWGC shall fund well defined activities proposed by an organization, andnot the organization’s general operating expenses (including, but not limited to salaries, rent, etc.). Successful applications are those for which an organization (1) proposes to DO something specific with the requested funds, (2) sets clear parameters for use of the requested funds and (3) provides clear metrics of success. 

  • If the proposed program/project/activity needs staff to support that specific goal, personnel costs for that specific goal may be considered in the context of the application. However, if the request is to support the salary of a staff person to do the routine work of the organization and/orassists the organization in meeting its payroll and/or other general administrative expenses, those requests will not qualify for consideration of a grant by the MWGC.
