Grant History
Mathews Family YMCA Preschool
MWGC has awarded a high impact grant to the Mathews Family YMCA Preschool for the past several years. Before the preschool, Mathews county had no licensed childcare. Now working families have affordable access to an incredible preschool program and childcare.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Mathews Women’s Giving Circle for awarding us a grant of $23,750. This support will have a direct and meaningful impact on the children and families we serve—helping us strengthen access to high-quality early learning and ensuring that families in Mathews County have a safe, nurturing, and enriching option for their preschoolers.
We truly value our partnership with the Mathews Women’s Giving Circle, and we are honored to be among the initiatives you’ve chosen to support.”
-Caitlyn Leavens, VP of Child Care
Mathews County Department of Social Services
Mathews County Department of Social Services was awarded multiple-year grants to support a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren initiative. The grants eased the burden of a grandparent, often on fixed incomes, by providing crisis assistance of shelter, power, food, and clothing. By taking grandchildren into their homes, grandparents are preventing the children from entering foster care and maintaining their connection to their families.
The children and grandparents of Mathews will benefit from these funds to assist them during some of their most challenging times.

Hands Across Mathews
Hands Across Mathews was awarded a grant to support the distribution and purchase of nutritious food items for school aged children during the summer months and over Winter and Spring school breaks.
Thank you for your strong support of our primary mission of helping those families in need here in Mathews County. We believe that we are truly making a difference and the support of your group certainly makes that possible.
